Did you know that San Quintin was discovered in 1542 by Juan Rodriguez
Cabrillo? This is the same explorer that discovered San Diego, CA. The
colonization of the region didn't begin until 1880 when a group of
English immigrants came to cultivate wheat. They built a wheat mill and
even brought in a train. Heavy droughts came and both the wheat fields
and mill were abandoned. You can still find the remnants where the old
mill stood.
The Desert Inn in San Quitin sits on a 10 mile long
stretch of sandy beach. Along this wonderful beach you can search for
different types of sea shells and sand dollars. In the mornings when
the tide is low you can dig for huge pismo clams. It's also a great
place to surf-fish or practice kiteboarding, jet-ski and surfing.
The
hotel has a full service restaurant with great Mexican and local dishes
(I recommend the local crab claws, they are great!!). The bar serves
wonderful margaritas and very friendly service.
The friendly staff at the hotel invites you to come soon and enjoy some incredible sunsets and starlight nights.
